About SO Direct Trade Compliance Training and Services
SO Direct's International Trade Compliance Consultance call upon local specialists in International Trade
Compliance Training to benefit from SO Direct International Trade Compliance training courses that result in the
assigned 'gatekeepers' within an organisation becoming proficient at making export assessment of documents,
drawings, models and hardware/software being exported and at assigning export tags to these items.
SO Direct provides fully trained, experienced, senior Technical Compliance Officers to deliver training courses for
engineering, procurement and operational managers in mixed groups at selected venues, and tailored courses at a

Typically, SO Direct courses cover areas such as what to watch out for, for example: Exports - links to the
military that seem inappropriate to the stated business or transaction. Transactions involving an embargoed
country, a citizen, or representative of an embargoed country, or an individual or entity subject to Government
sanction.
Imports - any payment to the exporter or benefiting the exporter that is not included in the invoice price or
otherwise reported to customs officials. Inaccurate identification of country of origin of the imported goods. Use
of an import tariff classification that does not appear to be an accurate description of the imported goods.

periodically by the Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) formally DBERR)) to ensure that your records
are robust prior to these audits SO Direct will undertake a pre audit heath check to ensure that your documentation

Equipment International Show at Excel, London, September 2009. Course creator, John Jackson, with 35 years
experience of working in Aerospace and Defence, has created the course so that attendees can become fully
proficient by the end of the course in applying a robust FIVE step process to determine an Item's Export Tag and
how to record this information in the International Trade Compliance recording tool(s) within a business.
The FIVE Steps to successful tagging are:
Identify the Item being Exported
Identify: Goods and or Technology? (by part number or unique
identifier)
Determine Export Control Jurisdiction (Military or Dual Use / Civil)
Jurisdiction: Is the Items END USE Military or DUAL USE?
Determine the Item's Export Classification (Military or Dual Use /
Civil)
Classification: Do the Goods and or Technology Need a Licence
before they are Exported?
Determine the item's Export Authorisation (LR or NLR)
Authorisation: Determine the type of Authorisation required to
Export the Goods and or Technology (Licence Required or NO Licence Required (LR or NLR))
Properly document and Tag the Items Rationale for the above determinations
Document: Document your findings for Audit and
Tracability
